Greywater Diversion Devices must meet the Australian Technical Specification ATS 5200.460:2004. Certification to the technical specification for plumbing and drainage products is obtained by way of a Watermark license.

What is the WaterMark?

The WaterMark is a graphic symbol indicating a supplier's claim that a plumbing product meets applicable regulatory requirements. Typical examples include materials used in the manufacture of products, which would come in contact with drinking water (e.g. pipes, taps valves, etc.) and devices preventing backflow into the water agencies infrastructure (e.g. toilets cisterns).

Why have a common WaterMark?

The concept of the WaterMark was created by Standards Australia with the endorsement of industry and regulators to reduce the variety of markings used to indicate regulatory compliance. The advantages to industry of a common mark, accepted and used by state and territory regulators, include:

  • simplifying marking requirements
  • helping to achieve a higher level of understanding of regulatory requirements and processes.

A further advantage is that the management of a common mark encourages enhanced consultation between different regulators whose requirements affect a given industry.

Do regulatory bodies accept the WaterMark?

Plumbing regulators accept the WaterMark as the supplier's claim of compliance, provided the conditions for its use are met. This avoids the need to have a different mark for each regulator.

Smart Approved Watermark

The Greywater Gardener 230™ system has been accredited with the Smart Approved WaterMark.

The Smart Approved WaterMark was developed by peak water industry bodies, including: Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA); the Irrigation Association of Australia (IAA); the Nursery and Garden Industry of Australia (NGIA); and the Australian Water Association (AWA).

The Smart Approved WaterMark scheme labels products that can assist consumers in reducing outdoor water use and was developed by the water industry’s peak bodies and is supported by the Federal Governments’ National Water Commission.

Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources: “The Smart WaterMark is the only national scheme where products or services are assessed by an independent panel of experts. There is no doubt that people will be looking for the WaterMark for assurance that they are using a product that makes a difference.”
